    The Sertoma Heritage Awards Ceremony was held on Saturday, March 4th to celebrate the winners of their coloring contest that focused on celebrating our American Heritage. Congratulations to Szymon K. who won 1st place, Aseel H. who placed 2nd, and Maya J. who received 3rd place.

  • Read-a-Thon a Success!

    The Glen Oaks annual Read-a-thon was held on Friday, February 17, 2017 and it was a huge success! An official tally of funds raised and student winners will be posted on our website soon and also published in the April newsletter. We want to thank the following local businesses for generously donating amazing prizes for our student raffle!   • NPD 117 Spelling Bee WInners

    The North Palos District 117 Spelling Bee was held January 20, 2017 at Oak Ridge. After 19 rounds and over 150 words including the entire 8th grade word list, these were the standings: Jesse T. 3B – 9th place; Zoe N. 5D – 8th place; and Yosef M. 5F - 3rd place. Congratulations!

  • Glen Oaks Teachers Win Marquette Bank's Adopt-a-Classroom Award

    Congratulations to Reading Specialist Andrea Hogan and 5th Grade Teacher Debbie Johnson, on being chosen to receive Marquette Bank's Adopt-a-Classroom. Glen Oaks teachers entered the raffle for a chance to win a $200 gift card at the start of the school year. Hogan and Johnson were recently informed they had been chosen and received a gift card for the purchase of any education related item.

  • Fourth Grade Teacher Kristen Mirus Recognized as a "Star"

    Congratulations to Mrs. Mirus, Glen Oaks 4th Grade Teacher, who has been recognized as Star of NPD117! Mrs. Mirrus was nominated by co-worker Andrea Hogan. Mrs. Hogan nominated Mrs. Mirus due to her dedication and hard work. Mrs. Hogan stated, "She takes every initiative to get to know her students' strengths in order to build on them and is an advocate for their needs. She works tirelessly to learn new and innovative strategies so that her students are well prepared to be life-long learners. She is also willing to share her knowledge with others. This past quarter, Mrs. Mirus took the huge responsibility of having a student-teacher in her room. She was able to mentor and guide her student teacher and I am confident that Mrs. Oketo benefited greatly from her knowledge and skills."

  • Glen Oaks Students Read for Record

    Glen Oak’s School participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Read for the Record® brings people from all over the world together to read the same story in an attempt to set the World Reading Record. During the Glen Oaks event, students in second and fourth grade, and students in third and fifth grade, were paired together. The older students read the story, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach, Jumpstart’s official 2016 book, to the younger students. They then discussed the book with their partner. This is the second year that Glen Oaks students have taken part in the world’s largest shared reading experience.

  • 5th Grade Girls Attend Math and Science Conference

    On October 8th, seventeen of our 5th grade girls attended the Girls Math and Science Conference. Each girl. Along with their parent, attended three different presentations by women with careers in the STEM fields. They listened to presenters speak about the importance of STEM and were given tips on how to help their daughters explore these types of careers.

  • Panther School Store

    The Glen Oaks PBIS Committee is hosting a school store this school year. The school store will be open on Tuesdays and each grade level will have one day a month to shop at the school store. The students will be able to use cash to buy school related items such as pencils, highlighters, and bookmarks, as well as Panther Paws to purchase a special "monthly feature." For October, 3rd grade will shop on the 11th, 4th grade on the 18th, and 5th grade on the 25th.
